Indian Railways plans to roll out its doorstep parcel service, 'Ghar Se Ghar Tak', in eight major cities starting on December 26, 2026. The service will be managed through the Rail Parcel App, allowing customers to book parcels online and make digital payments via UPI, cards, or net banking.
The service will be available in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Pune. Customers can book parcels up to 15 days before the scheduled train departure. Logistics Service Partners (LSPs) will handle first-mile pickup and last-mile delivery, while Indian Railways will manage transportation between stations.
The Rail Parcel App will allow customers to track their parcels in real-time via GPS integration and receive automatic notifications about delivery status changes. The app will also generate digital forwarding notes, eliminating the need for physical paperwork.
The service is designed to handle both non-perishable goods and specialized cargo such as electrical appliances, furniture, industrial machinery, and two-wheelers.
The Rail Parcel App is currently undergoing beta testing. Customers must register with a valid mobile number to book, track, and receive updates on their parcels. The booking window for parcels will open 15 days prior to the scheduled train departure.
