The Paradip Port Authority (PPA) and the Odisha government are reportedly planning to develop an International Cruise Terminal in Puri with an estimated investment of Rs 1,500 crore. Union Ports, Shipping and Waterways Minister Sarbananda Sonowal announced the proposal during a consultative committee meeting in Puri.

The project fits into a broader maritime strategy aimed at boosting passenger growth, freight movement, employment, and reducing carbon emissions. The government has set a target to increase the share of coastal and inland waterways in India's freight movement from 6% to 12% by 2047.

It also plans to attract one million sea cruise passengers by 2029.

The development of the terminal is expected to enhance coastal tourism in Odisha and support the country's long-term maritime goals.
