Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw inspected New Delhi Railway Station to review passenger amenities and security.
The inspection comes before the festive season, which includes Durga Puja, Diwali and Chhath, a time when India sees its highest passenger rush each year. Indian Railways has bolstered security with 700 additional AI-enabled cameras and set up a dedicated holding area for passengers who have reserved tickets.
Luggage-checking facilities were moved outside the station building to create more space for waiting areas.
Between October 1 and November 5, 2026, passenger movements at several major stations reached significant numbers: Old Delhi, Anand Vihar Terminal, Hazrat Nizamuddin and Sarai Rohilla collectively recorded around two crore passenger movements. Mumbai's Bandra Terminus, Lokmanya Tilak Terminus and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus saw approximately 1.5 crore movements, while Hyderabad's Secunderabad, Kacheguda and Charlapalli stations recorded around 90 lakh.
Bengaluru's major stations had about one crore passenger movements during the same period, and Surat and Udhna stations handled approximately 50 lakh.
Indian Railways is strengthening passenger amenities, security infrastructure and operational arrangements based on feedback received from travellers.
