Indian Railways has added a dedicated dog box facility to its Vande Bharat Sleeper trains, easing travel for pet owners on overnight journeys. The box is a cage-like enclosure with latched doors and separate holders for food and water.

It is currently offered only on the Howrah-Kamakhya Vande Bharat Sleeper Express (27575/27576). Passengers who wish to use it must have a confirmed ticket and a veterinary fitness certificate issued within 24 to 48 hours of travel.

In addition, vaccination records are required. The dog box sits in the luggage compartment, which can hold up to 1.5 tonnes.

The facility is not available in AC two-tier, AC three-tier or sleeper-class compartments under existing rules, nor for cats or other small pets. Only one pet is allowed per PNR, and RAC or waitlisted tickets are not eligible for this facility.
